Gazing at the Stars

Have you ever wondered if scientists will find life on other worlds?  Society has imagined this in old science fiction movies and books, and now we hear hints of potential life in news headlines.  We will discuss how NASA scientists are looking for new planets, especially those that might host living organisms.  Extremophiles are the main focus of our search. What can live in the harsh environment of space?  The next NASA mission to help in this search is the James Webb Telescope, which is expected to launch later in 2021. Find out what this mission is all about with the  the newly formed Girl Scout Astronomy Club of southern Illinois. After our talk, step outside to look at the night sky with the River Bend Astronomy Club and discover the wonders we can see with our Earth bound telescopes.
