33,000+ Adult Books, 15,000+ Juvenile Books, 500+ CD's. 400+ DVD's, 1300+ videos, 900+ Books on tape, and 200+ Books on CD.
Library Cards
Library cards are available free to residents living in the city limits of Highland. Applicants 17 and younger need a parental signature on their application. A drivers license and second form of ID with the address on it is required to obtain a card. Effective January 1, 2012, the fee to purchace a nonresident card will be $72.00. This is an average for residents living in the city limits. Ask library staff for details. Cards must be presented for checkout of materials or to use computer terminals. There is a $5 fee charged to replace lost or damaged cards. All cards may be used at any member library of the Lewis & Clark Library System.
Loan Periods
Items may be checked out for two weeks at a time and usually can be renewed with the exception of videos and DVD's. They may only be checked out for one week and cannot be renewed. There is a limit of 6 DVD's, CD's, audio books and/or videos per adult card (this includes those ordered from other libraries). Patrons must be 18 or older to check out DVD's or videos.
Interlibrary Loans
The Latzer Library is a member of Lewis & Clark Library System, which is fully automated and online. This allows all libraries in the system to see each other's items and borrow them free of charge. Items not available through the system may be available through OCLC (Online Computer Library Center). If a fee is charged by the lending library, it will be charged to the patron. You must have a valid library card to use Interlibrary Loan.
Fines
Overdue fines are 10 cents per day on all materials except videos and DVD's. The fine for videos and DVD's is $1 per day. Videos not rewound and AV materials returned in the book drop are also assessed a $1 fee. All fines must be paid before a patron may check out items, use the public access computers or receive a new card.
Public Access Terminals
Computer terminals with Internet access are available for patrons who have a library card and have signed the Internet agreement. Patrons without a library card must sign the internet agreement and must pay $1/ half-hour. There is a one hour time limit for public access terminals. You may print from all of the computers for 25 cents per page in black and white and 50 cents per page in color.
Faxing
You can send and receive faxes from the library. To send a fax, the fee is $1 for the first page and 50 cents for each page after that. To receive a fax, the fee is 25 cents a page.
Photocopy Machine
A black & white photocopier is available for public use. The cost is 25 cents per page. Color copies can be made by the library staff for 50 cents per page.
Meeting rooms
Two meeting rooms are available for non-profit and civic organizations to use during library hours. There is a $50 deposit required, which is returned if the area is left in acceptable condition. Please see library staff to schedule a meeting or for more information.
Reciprocal Borrowing
Your library card can be used in other Lewis & Clark system libraries.
Book Drops
There is a book drop located in the front of the library and one in the back. PLEASE DO NOT PLACE DVD's, CD's, VIDEOS, OR AUDIO BOOKS IN THEM.
Donations/ Memorials
The library always welcomes donations of new and gently used books, CD's, DVD's, and videos. Donations of money can be used to honor or memorialize a loved one.
Friends
The Friends of Latzer Library provide the membership to the Junior Library guild, funds for summer reading programs, computer equipment and other items as needed. Yearly dues are collected to support the group. Stop by or call the library to become a member.
